"More than one ink tank of the following color is installed".  (Canon printers)

Easiest solution:  I solved this problem with a dry paper towel & very carefully wiping across the chip.  Worked like a charm for me.

I checked several forums on this issue before I tried this.  I manually refill the Canon cartridges and worried I might have damaged my printer.  So, I wanted to see what others had said.  (Turns out it has nothing to do with manually refilling as this happens to people using original Canon cartridges as well.)

Following are some of the thoughts from those forums:

    1.  Called Canon Tech Support @ 1 800 828 4040.  Apparently it is caused by a malfunction of the  cartridge chip.  Canon will replace the cartridge (s) at no cost under warranty. 

    2.     I bought a new cart and installed about a week now and it is working like new. It reports the amount of ink in cart like it did when new. The chip must have failed. I can't get new cart for it as it has been refilled and they wouldn't warranty that.

    3.  Had the same error after replacing my black ink om my MP830.(UO71) I Put some Methylated Spirits on a cotton tip and gently cleaned the cartridge chip (allow it to air dry). This fixed my problem!

The third suggestion got me thinking.  I didn't have methylated spirits, so I just dry cleaned with a paper towel.  It worked for me, so I would try it first.  It might save the aggravation of contacting Canon & waiting, waiting, waiting...... or the cost of a new cartridge.  If it doesn't work, then try one of the above.
